CPL 2026: Caribbean cricket meets island-hopping

There is no cricket league in the world that plays out across eight separate countries. The Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League does. From August 7 to September 20, 2026, seven teams, 39 matches and some of the most scenic grounds on Earth will carry the CPL from St Vincent to Barbados, across turquoise bays, volcanic peaks and beach towns that most tourists never see past. This is the sport’s most beautiful road trip — and for travellers it is the best excuse ever invented for an island-hopping tour of the Caribbean.

The event: the biggest CPL yet

The CPL is the Caribbean’s own professional Twenty20 competition, founded in 2013 and staged every August and September when the islands are at their most relaxed. The 2026 edition is the biggest ever: a record seven teams will contest 39 matches, with more games in more nations than any previous season. The opening match took place on August 7 at Arnos Vale, St Vincent — a first-ever CPL hosting for the island — and the road now runs through Saint Lucia, St Kitts, Antigua, Trinidad, Guyana and Jamaica before everything converges on Barbados for the final.

The 2026 lineup: new faces, familiar champions

The Jamaica Kingsmen make their CPL debut in 2026, giving Jamaica two consecutive seasons of big-city T20 — while the Barbados Tridents return to the tournament, reviving one of the league’s classic brands. The defending champions are Trinbago Knight Riders, who lifted the trophy in 2025 with a win over Guyana Amazon Warriors; under new captain Nicholas Pooran they now chase a record sixth title. The other contenders are familiar: Guyana Amazon Warriors, Saint Lucia Kings, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, who opened the season with a win over Jamaica Kingsmen in St Vincent.

Where the cricket takes you: an island route

The 2026 fixtures read like a map of the eastern Caribbean:

• St Vincent — the season opener at Arnos Vale, ringed by green volcanic ridges.
• Saint Lucia — evening cricket at the Daren Sammy Stadium in Gros Islet, with the Piton peaks on the horizon.
• St Kitts — Warner Park in Basseterre, where the old town meets the sea.

All roads lead to Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, for the CPL 2026 playoffs and the final on Sunday September 20.
